Pool Demo & Construction

Elwood Community Pool

Opportunity

The City of Elwood, Indiana faced a critical challenge with its aging community pool facilities. The pool house, chemical building, and multiple pools, originally constructed in 1956, had undergone renovations in the 1980s and early 2000s. However, by 2016, the infrastructure had deteriorated significantly, with major issues and underground leaks rendering the pool unsustainable for continued operation. The pool had been closed since 2016, leaving the community without a vital recreational resource.

Solution

CRU was engaged to collaborate with a developer and feasibility consultant to assess the best path forward. After careful evaluation, the team determined that the most viable solution was to demolish the existing structures and build new facilities. This approach would ensure the long-term sustainability, safety, and functionality of the community's pool amenities.

Our team took the lead on the demolition of the outdated site and the construction of a new, modern pool house and mechanical building. The project has involved the coordination of 24 trades. To ensure the new facilities met the community's needs, we partnered with a local architect to design the buildings and worked alongside a specialty pool equipment contractor. The city approved and bonded $4.5 million for the entire project, with CRU being awarded a $1.9 million contract for the construction of the new facility. Construction is still underway with the pool expected to open in the spring of 2025, offering the residents of Elwood a revitalized recreational space.
