How We Started

CRU Construction started in 2023, but the idea had been brewing for years. Jonathan Chambless and Chad Ray, brothers-in-law and longtime friends, spent the last decade working together in construction, always dreaming about launching their own company. One day, they finally decided to make it happen, and CRU was born in Muncie, Indiana.

Jonathan and Chad are all about getting the job done right. With their combined skills and years of experience, they’ve built a team that values strong relationships with clients and knows how to deliver on schedule and within budget. CRU exists to be a trusted construction partner, transforming communities and building opportunities for its clients.

Chad Ray

Co-Owner

Chad's construction journey began at his father’s company, where he honed his skills on high-end residential remodels and developed a keen eye for detail. After his father retired, Chad launched Ray Design Co., successfully taking on various projects and collaborating with Jonathan on commercial installs. His expertise caught the attention of a national commercial contractor, leading him to open and lead a regional office in Indiana as Regional Director, where he built a team and managed projects nationwide.
With over 15 years in both residential and commercial construction, Chad is known for going the extra mile to deliver exceptional results.
Outside of work, Chad is all about the outdoors—whether it’s fishing, hunting, camping, or enjoying a bonfire with his family. He and his wife Chelsy have four kids, and their family is actively involved in their church and children’s theater productions.
Chad’s vision for CRU is to grow and become a nationally recognized general contractor while also being a household name known for making a positive impact on the local community where he lives and works.

Jonathan Chambless

Co-Owner

Jonathan's journey into construction began right after high school, working for Chad and his father’s company. He later earned a degree in architecture with a minor in interior design from Ball State University. Throughout college, he continued to help with the family business, and after graduation, he became a Draftsman and Project Manager at a custom architectural millwork company. There, Jonathan gained valuable experience on large commercial projects, handling everything from estimating to installation, and often collaborating with Chad’s company.
When the opportunity arose, Jonathan joined Chad as the Lead Estimator at their regional office, and together, they eventually launched CRU Construction.
Outside of work, Jonathan channels his passion for design into woodworking and furniture making, often creating pieces for his home. He loves spending time outdoors with his wife Cambry and their two daughters, Ckyla and Ckenna, and they all enjoy playing volleyball and staying active in their church community.
Jonathan is driven by a desire to make a positive impact through CRU Construction, helping to shape and uplift the growing community in their hometown of Muncie, Indiana.
